Admissions -- General Information
ADMISSIONS ARE CLOSED. BELOW ARE THE FORMER REQUIREMENTS.
These are the factors we consider when accepting a student into CHILD Montessori School:
- The child must be sufficiently mature as to not be disruptive in the class.
- The child must be able to adjust to separation from home.
- For placement in a Primary Class (3-6 years), the child must be toilet trained (although occasional accidents are to be expected).
- The child must be able to attend to his/her own work, show respect for peers, teachers, and the environment, as well as behave in a manner that does not distract others from learning.
- The child must benefit from the unique Montessori environment; therefore, all children are accepted on a trial basis (4 weeks initially).
- Placement preference is given to current CHILD Montessori students and their siblings, as well as other students with Montessori experience.
- Our program primarily serves children with normal physical and emotional health. (Acceptance of a student with special needs is based on our staff’s training and ability to work effectively with the child and the degree to which that child can function in the classroom.)
NEW STUDENT ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES
ENROLLMENT of new students is not done over the phone or by mail. Here are the basic enrollment steps:
- At least one parent or guardian must request to visit, without their child, to observe the program.
- An appointment is made to discuss the CHILD Montessori School program, parent expectations, and the child’s needs. These are usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- The parent fills out and returns an information sheet.
- An interview with the child and an appropriate teacher will take place. On occasion, the teacher may suggest that the child visit the class for a day for further observation.
- If the parents and the school staff agree that CHILD Montessori is a positive setting for the child—and there is an available space—the new student will be accepted. (If there is no space, the child will be put on the waiting list and will receive paperwork at the time of enrollment.)
- The parents will receive an enrollment packet (a Parent Handbook and Admission forms). After reviewing the material, the parents will pay a non-refundable registration fee to hold the child’s place. When the required forms are returned to the school, the enrollment process is complete.
WAITING LISTS
CHILD Montessori School maintains waiting lists for all of its classes. After visiting the school, the parent may request placement of their child’s name on the waiting list by filling out and returning the information sheet When a space is available, the family will be contacted. No registration fee is required to be on a waiting list. New children are enrolled as openings occur.

New students may be admitted at any time during the academic year, provided that space is available in the program. Before your child's enrollment at CHILD Montessori is confirmed, all enrollment paperwork and the non-refundable registration fee must be received.
Prior to acceptance, two visits are required. The first by the parents alone, the second by the parents with their child.
PRE-PRIMARY PROGRAM - STUDENTS 2 TO 3 YEARS OLD
Prospective Pre-Primary Program students do not need to be toilet trained.
PRIMARY PROGRAM -STUDENTS 3 TO 6 YEARS OLD
Prospective Primary Program students must be toilet trained. Prior attendance at a Montessori Toddler Program is desirable, but not required.
ELEMENTARY PROGRAM - Grades 1 to 5
The preferred applicant to the Elementary Program will have attended a Montessori Primary Program for at least two years. In special circumstances, consideration will be given to a student who has completed less time in a Montessori Primary Program.
RETURNING STUDENT ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE
Many CHILD Montessori programs have a waiting list. We are not able to hold a classroom space for returning students unless all enrollment paperwork and payment of the non-refundable enrollment fee have been received prior to the deadline for re-enrollment.
